Who You Partner With Matters
Mar 19, 2023It is critical in partnerships that you choose to partner with individuals that reflect the behavior, the character, and the emotional intelligence that you want representing you.
If you own a business, you want your team to reflect professional and ethical behavior, the utmost character, and display emotional intelligence to your clients, customers, and one another. Certainly a team standard is not lack of character, poor emotional responses, and negative behavior!
I (Cindy) was reminded of the power of thinking outside of ourselves in a recent message from Jeff Henderson. In Henderson’s book Know What You’re FOR, he shares the importance of being the best FOR your community and industry rather than striving to be the best IN your community and industry. If we are working to be the best FOR those we serve and impact, the rest will come.
This is a powerful thought process for anyone and especially leaders. Anytime we are working to be the best FOR those we serve, it also requires partnership of some type. As John Maxwell says, “No accomplishment of great value has ever been achieved by a human being working alone.” We need others to partner with and help one another become the best FOR those we serve.
As we lead ourselves and lead teams, we need to consider how much who we partner with really matters. Many of the partnerships I’ve seen fail, were due to unmatched values. It is critical in partnerships that you choose to partner with individuals that reflect the behavior, the character, and the emotional intelligence that you want representing you.

Certainly a team standard is not lack of character, poor emotional responses, and negative behavior! Yet, this happens if we are not very intentional about messaging how we are FOR our people based on team values. And how the team is FOR the organization, one another, and the customers by their behaviors and actions matching the team values.
