Setting Your Gauge…

Setting Your Gauge…Recently, we were cleaning out closets in the upstairs of our home as we prepared to remodel our guest bedroom.  Being a person who has no need of keeping things “in case I may one day need them” I (Cindy) was appalled by the sheer volume of junk we had shoved in closets, drawers and cabinets.  (By we, I mean me.) We have by no means completed this project, but the clean areas feel so refreshing to my soul that I’m encouraged to get the job done!  In this process, I was reminded of how often we think we have moved on from, or risen above, the challenges and issues of life and ‘cleaned out the clutter’ only to realize we have a lot of stored junk that is holding us back.  When the waves of life come, let’s strive to be aware of the wrong thinking, negative mindset, or mental picture of past defeats.  In 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, John Maxwell states regarding The Law of Pain…

“Pain prompts us to face who we are and where we are.  What we do with that experience, defines who we become.”

I encourage you to figure out what it is in life that gives you positive perspective in every situation.  Mine came from working in the hospice field for 11 years.  At any given time, we were helping nearly one hundred families and patients as they faced their own death or the death of a loved one ranging from 5 months to nearly 100 years old.  This gave me perspective on everything in my life moving forward.  I need to occasionally remind myself of the perspective I have gained and the gauge it has given me on life.
