John Maxwell begins his introduction to The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by saying “Potential is one of the most wonderful words in any language. It looks forward with optimism. It is filled with hope. It promises success. It implies fulfillment. It hints at greatness. Potential is a word based on possibilities.”
He goes on to explain that one of the keys for any one of us to truly tap into our own potential lies in pursuing our own growth. Throughout the fifteen chapters that follow, John provides us with some of the most practical steps we could possibly take in making this growth he talks about a reality in our own lives. But having practical tools is just part of the overall process; without the discipline to apply what he shares, we’re no farther along than we would have been had we never read them in the first place. We all need some level of support to begin taking action on any new plan. Depending on who you are, and your primary behavioral style, the thing that motivates you to action can be very different from what creates that spark in your friends or co-workers. For me, I’ve always gotten value from opportunities to learn from like-minded people.
So for the folks that are like me, here’s an opportunity: On Wednesday, March 28, we are hosting an Encore Broadcast of the 2017 LIVE2LEAD simulcast. Whether you were one of the nearly 400 folks that were able to attend one of the LIVE2LEAD events we hosted in 2017 or not, this one has Potential to Make a Difference unlike any other to date.
Yes, it will be the same line up of speakers that were featured at LIVE2LEAD:Harrisonburg and LIVE2LEAD:Winchester in October 2017. (I’ve seen these presentations 4 or 5 times now and pick up something new each time…) But the Potential I’m referring to now is in making an impact in our community.
ALL ticket sales for this Encore Broadcast will go directly to support Blue Ridge Area Food Bank as a way of showing our appreciation to Matt Lohr for serving as the Local Leadership Keynote Speaker for LIVE2LEAD:Harrisonburg. Matt recently completed a term on the board of directors for BRAFB and suggested we consider hosting this additional event to benefit them. After touring their facility in Verona, Cindy and I understood why he was so passionate about what they do!
If you’ve already had the chance to attend a LIVE2LEAD event in 2017, I’d encourage you to consider this one as “extra credit” for any nuggets you may have missed. If your schedule doesn’t permit, I’m going to ask a favor: pass the word to any friends or co-workers you think would get value from making this part of their growth journey. Space shouldn’t be an issue as Blue Ridge Community College is providing use of Plecker Workforce Center (Dr. Downey also serves on the BRAFB board of directors).
In that introduction, John goes on to give some thoughts on unfulfilled potential: “Not reaching your potential is like dying with the music still inside you.” Let’s not only use this Encore Broadcast to reach our own potential, but to help the folks at Blue Ridge Area Food Bank fulfill more of theirs!
